Churches of Christ in South Australia and Northern Territory is a dynamic movement of locally led churches, peppered with faith-full believers who are welcoming and adventurous.
Who we are
Adventurous
We’re not content with just sitting in the pews. As we read Scripture together, we can see God is up to something in us and our local communities. It’s capturing our imagination – and we’re joining in!
Welcoming
We’re intent on creating space and walking alongside people at all stages of faith: the evangelists, the doubters, the broken, the hopeful. We celebrate our unity in all this diversity. You are welcome to bring your joy and sadness, faith and doubt, belief and questions.
Faith-full
We believe faith should be as accessible as possible because, ultimately, it’s all about Jesus. Together, we commit to the simple-yet-powerful practices and rhythms lived out in the New Testament: nothing more, nothing less.
Dynamic
As a dynamic movement of locally led churches, we value being in relationship with each other. Our structure has been designed to be as simple as possible so we have the freedom to adapt and respond to our local communities.
Our story starts way back in the early 1800s. A time when people like Barton Stone and Thomas Campbell broke away from a religious system that they saw excluding people. They believed that church doesn’t need to be too complicated: it’s about Christians uniting around a single confession that Jesus is Lord.
They started this movement of unity with an open table for anyone to join. This group of agitators and disruptors found their way from the US and UK to Australia. In the 1840s, leaders like Thomas Magarey inspired a network of churches around South Australia and beyond.
Over the past 170+ years, we have seen countless followers of Jesus bring hope and change to communities across South Australia. Through highs and lows, we are compelled to keep returning to that simple confession: Jesus is Lord.
You are so welcome to join with us in writing the next chapter.
